Tips for setting up a Mardave V12 - page 2

The following are more general hints:
-Install a decent set of battery mounts. The most common in use at the club are from mounts from the Mardave Cobra. Using these pushes the battery pack towards the rear giving more rear end grip. The mounts are available from Matt at the club or Mardave stock code C2. Kamtech, check Ebay, have produced a moulded battery tray in ABS or Lexan which again pushes the batteries rearwards, utilise the mounting holes already in the chassis, and come with a Velcro strap.
-Adding a small piece of foam 5mmx5mm, sticky on one side only, stops the rear pod from rolling around too much. This improves the handling in the corners and rear end grip.
-Tyres, these are probably the most important component of your car and therefore have the most opinions. V54P’s (UFRA pink medium), sold by Matt at the club, all round seems to be a good starting point. Just put tyre additive on the rears and this should see you running well, remember to wipe it off on a bit of rag or paper towel just before the race, don’t use the track as this makes the Race Director angry! -Gear mesh needs to be set just right. Too tight and you will loose power, too loose and you run the risk of stripping teeth. When setting the mesh, rotate the spur gear and check in four places, as sometimes the moulded spur gear isn’t always round. Also make sure the pinion is in the middle of the spur to get maximum power transfer. It’s worth checking the gear mesh again after having a big impact as the motor may have moved.
-Body shell choice is obviously down to personal choice but there are shells out there that are better than others. The following shells are noted by Mark Stiles to keep the car well balanced: Peugeot 205, Ford Fiesta, Clio mk1, widy body 205, Toyota Starlet, BMW Mini, Peugeot 206, in either ABS of Lexan. Choose a bright paint scheme, this will not only look good but you will be able to see it as it won’t blend into the track. And if you can see it the other drivers will see it too!
Now all you have to do is practice with your new and improved setup and start winning races!
